By the time Dolly Parton released this 12-song set on Monument Records in February 1967, she had already garnered a fair amount of attention from folks in the world of country music industry. Along with having released a handful of singles for the label, she’d also heard her songs recorded by the likes of Skeeter Davis, Bill Phillips and Hank Williams, Jr.

When Dolly put her own voice to her compositions (along with co-writes she penned with Bill Owens), the world at large was introduced to Dolly in a big way. The album went to #11 on the country chart behind the hit singles “Something Fishy” and the Curly Putnam cover, “Dumb Blonde.”

Ironically, the cover of Hello, I’m Dolly portrays Miss Parton as anything but a dumb blonde and, with her subdued knowing smile, gives little hint of the bigger-than-life character she would become.
