Laid-back, smooth-voiced country icon Don Williams was a consistent hitmaker in the 1970s and ’80s, when he earned the nickname “Gentle Giant” for his easygoing style (not to mention the fact he was rather tall).

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, Williams has been mostly retired in recent years on his Tennessee farm. However, he recently announced he’ll be releasing a brand new album, his first in eight years.

Up first ‘Boys of Fall’

The juggernaut film The Hunger Games opens today, to great anticipation and excitement. The film itself will only feature two pop songs, Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars’ “Safe & Sound” and the Arcade Fire’s “Abraham’s Daughter.” But the soundtrack, Songs From District 12 and Beyond, is loaded with songs inspired by the book from artists like Maroon 5, Kid Cudi, Glen Hansard (of Once), Miranda Lambert, and several less well-known acts.

So how did these bands earn a spot the soundtrack for one of the most anticipated films of 2012?

Zac Brown – Beanies, Beards,…Free music is on the way from Southern Ground Artists, the record label that’s home to the Zac Brown Band. Music fans can look forward to grabbing a copy of the Southern Ground Artists Compilation, Vol. 2 for free on April 21, as part of Record Store Day 2012.
