At a show in Amherst, MA country star Miranda Lambert took a sign from the crowd that read “Take Notes Chris Brown,” held it up and said, “Nothing else needs to be said tonight, ladies and gentlemen.” She then went into a performance of her single “Gunpowder and Lead,” a song about fighting back against an abusive partner with the chorus, “I’m gonna show him what little girls are made of/Gunpowder and lead.”

This isn’t the first time Miranda has made her feelings about Chris known. She issued a critique after his GRAMMY performance via Twitter, saying, “And Chris Brown twice? I don’t get it. He beat on a girl…Not cool that we act like that didn’t happen. He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys.”

Who’s Ready For The Return Of Kix Brooks?

Imagine being with the same friend on the road for 20 years, then coming to a day where you both decide to go your own way! Now you wanna do your own thing and make your own sound in the music world, and thats exactly the place where Kix Brooks is in his life!

It seemed like right after Brooks & Dunn split, Ronnie Dunn went his own way and immediately started releasing his own solo music. Well, now Kix has decided to release his own solo single coming up in just a few weeks! On March 19 “New To This Town” will hit the radio. The song was written by Kix and a long time friend Marv Green and Terry McBride, and it will also feature Joe Walsh from the Eagles!

Of course Ronnie has released three singles off his album, which came out mid-2011, yet none have hit the Number 1 spot yet! I wonder if Kix will have what it takes, or if these two guys were just that awesome together when that earned all those number one hits over the years!

Sugarland Lawyers Put Blame On Fans In Indiana Stage Collapse

Lawyers for country duo Sugarland are stating that fans injured or killed by a stage collapse while awaiting the band’s performance at the Indiana Stage Fair last year are at least partially to blame, according to the AP. The statement comes in response to a civil lawsuit filed last week.

How does that sit with the band’s fans? If the Twitter response so far today is any indication, not too well.

According to the AP:

Calling the powerful winds that toppled the stage on Aug. 13 an “act of God,” Sugarland’s attorneys said fair officials and Mid-America Sound Corp. were responsible for the stage setup, and that the fans voluntarily assumed risk by attending the show.

“Some or all of the plaintiffs’ claimed injuries resulted from their own fault,” according to the response. Sugarland attorney James H. Milstone would not elaborate Tuesday on whether that statement included those killed as well as the injured.

Sugarland manager Gail Gellman issued a statement to The Associated Press on Tuesday saying Nettles and Kristian Bush were upset that anyone might think they were not concerned about their fans.

“Sadly when a tragedy occurs, people want to point fingers and try to sensationalize the disaster. The single most important thing to Sugarland are their fans. Their support and love over the past nine years has been unmatched. For anyone to think otherwise is completely devastating to them,” the statement read.

It’s causing some confusion among fans, who as you might expect, are not exactly pleased. Below are some of the responses so far from the #Sugarland Twitter feed:

Leann Rimes Sings Tearful Tribute To Whitney Houston

Sunday, February 11th, 2012, the day after Whitney Houston passed away, a very emotional Leann Rimes paid tribute to her idol, Whitney Houston during her Reno, Nevada concert. We’ve got the video for you.

During Leann’s performance she told the crowd, “Probably one of the three women who influenced my whole career, my life, was Whitney Houston. I’m going to try and sing in honor of her. I’ve got to stop crying ’cause the woman had a range like nobody else, so I can’t sing this song crying.”

After the show, she Tweeted that she wanted to share a clip of the gig with fans and wrote, “My heart is truly broken… Thank you Reno for a very memorable show.”

Whitney Houston Remembered…As you watch the video you’ll see Leann filled with sorrow as she sings, “If I Don’t Have You” and she brakes down in tears singing Whitney Houston’s signature song “I Will Always Love You.” She struggled to finish the tribute and ended up whispering the lyrics into the microphone.

A very moving moment for a little lady who has an amazing singing talent of her own. It’s obvious when you hear Leann Rimes sing that she was inspired by such great singers as Whitney Houston.

The Man In Black Is Back

“ Why all the fuss? If you ask yourself that question, time to check out Johnny's music...and the story of his life.
” Terri Hemmert This Sunday would have been Johnny Cash‘s 80th birthday. Though he’s up there in heaven with his beloved June Carter Cash (certainly one of the great love stories of any generation!), we here on Earth will be celebrating his birthday.

Check out his video of “Hurt,” the brilliant cover he did of Trent Reznor‘s song. It includes footage of the abandoned Johnny Cash museum, The House Of Cash, which was a chilling image of how fleeting fame can be.

Well this Sunday, on his birthday, they will break ground for the project to preserve Johnny’s boyhood home in Dyess, Arkansas. Arkansas State University is behind this project. It’s part of a restoration of a housing project that will document how people lived during the Great Depression. And later this year they will open a new Johnny Cash museum in Nashville.

Yearbook Photos: Kurt Cobain, Johnny…There will be music as well. On April 3rd they will release a two CD set, Bootleg IV: The Sound Of Truth. It will feature gospel and spiritual songs from the ’70s and ’80s. Johnny’s gospel singing was always from the heart. There will be a box set and other releases throughout the year. No details yet. They are also going to release three new documentaries.

Why all the fuss? If you ask yourself that question, time to check out Johnny’s music…and the story of his life. You couldn’t make this stuff up. He lived a remarkable life.

At the College of Rock And Roll Knowledge, I teach my students that Johnny Cash transcended genres and made some of the best music of the century. His work with producer Rick Rubin was stunning. And that’s when Johnny was close to the end of his life. He put it all out there in an honest, stark and compelling way. So if you want to introduce yourself to his music, check out any of those American Recordings with Rubin.

Then pick up the DVD Johnny Cash: The Anthology. This is a fine collection of performances from all periods of his life, interviews with some of his peers, and a documentary called Half Mile A Day which is excellent. Any footage of his prison concerts will show you how real that man was, and how he impacted those lucky enough to see him perform. Bob Dylan looked to him as a major hero. So did Bono, Sheryl, Crow, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Clash, Jay-Z and Kanye West, Chris Martin, Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Brian Wilson and everyone else that showed up for the taping of God’s Gonna Cut You Down.

Johnny was hero material. He never forgot where he came from. He always had time to help a young musician trying to get a break. And his strong faith led him to visit those in prison, and to be present to the poor. Not everybody that reads the Bible really gets it. Johnny obviously got it, and lived it. He was the first to point out his mistakes and weaknesses. We will be the ones who appreciate his candor, and continue to be inspired by his music, his life, and his love for June.

He’s been gone for nine years. Gone but not forgotten. He’s worth rememberin’.

Celebrity Smackdown: Miranda Lambert Versus Chris Brown

Leave it up to the out spoken Miranda Lambert to make sure her voice is heard. She has recently taken to Twitter, and even spoken out at a recent concert, about how she finds it crazy that people have forgiven Chris Brown. If you don’t know, Chris is an entertainer that sings R&B music, and 3 years ago, he assaulted his then girlfriend. And after he won a GRAMMY this year, Miranda isn’t too happy.
