Best Sellers From The ’90s: Dixie Chicks, “Fly”

Supported by an army of Nashville’s A-list sessioneers, the Dixie Chicks scored a multi-million selling album in 1999 with Fly.

Even though the studio was filled with such luminaries as Randy Scruggs, Matt Rollings and Lloyd Maines (father of singer Natalie Maines), producers Blake Chancey and Paul Worley always made sure the ladies were in the spotlight.

The result was a 14-song set that offered much the same as their record-breaking debut: high-spirited country pop songs with plenty of twang and lots of female empowerment lyrics.

Six singles sprang from Fly along with two GRAMMY wins and two more nominations, not to mention sales of 10 million copies since its release in October 1999.

Country Legend Don Williams Releasing First Album In 8 Years

Laid-back, smooth-voiced country icon Don Williams was a consistent hitmaker in the 1970s and ’80s, when he earned the nickname “Gentle Giant” for his easygoing style (not to mention the fact he was rather tall).

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, Williams has been mostly retired in recent years on his Tennessee farm. However, he recently announced he’ll be releasing a brand new album, his first in eight years.

Titled And So It Goes, the album is due to hit stores June 19, courtesy of Sugar Hill Records. You can get a taste of what’s to come via the Soundcloud link that Sugar Hill posted for the track “What If It Worked Like That.”

The album is produced by Don’s longtime collaborator Garth Fundis, and it will feature such esteemed guests as Keith Urban, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill.

“We weren’t looking to reinvent Don,” Fundis has said, “just to make a good new Don Williams record.”

“The longer you do it [songwriting, recording, and performing], the harder it becomes to do things that aren’t just an echo of something you’ve already done,” writes Williams on his website. “Of course, when you do lock into it, the fact that you’ve lived all those years and seen so much allows you to bring a lot of things to the song you couldn’t have when you were starting out.”

Sugarland Must Testify In April Regarding 2011 Stage Collapse

Despite being on tour, the band Sugarland has been ordered by an Indiana judge to appear in order to give depositions surrounding the tragic, fatal stage collapse that happened during their set last August at the Indiana State Fair. According to the AP, the band must appear in early April.

Attorneys for stage builder Mid-America Sound Corp. (which built the roof and rigging used to hold lights and sound equipment that collapsed during the Aug. 13 show) had wanted Sugarland bandmembers Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush to begin providing depositions this week. However, because they were on tour, the band wanted to instead hold the depositions in May.

The Indiana judge, though, has now ordered that depositions take place between April 1 and 15. Only singer Jennifer Nettles is being required to appear at this time.

According to the AP, Sugarland spokesman Allan Mayer said in a statement that the band is “aware of the judge’s ruling and of course intends to cooperate.”

Lionel Richie and Shania Twain sing “Endless Love” and a new promo for The Voice, Keith Urban version!

Im pretty sure Im going to love Lionel Richie’s new album “Tuskegee” that comes out tomorrow. Its all his hits but sang with Country artists. The first video is “Endless Love” with Shania Twain. If you are heartbroken or not feeling lovey? I wouldnt recommend watching this…you’ll probably cry? hahaI mean, there’s a beach, a horse, and a baby grand. Not to mention the song is THE romantic love songs of all love songs. I just watched it and Im a mess so heads up, then again I cry over everything! haha P.S. Can a cute guy PLEASE come get me and sweep me away to live at a place that looks this, so I can ride a horse on a beach all day with the wind blowing in my hair? oh, and maybe sing to me while standing in the sand. kthanks.

I got goosebumps watching this new promo for The Voice in Aus. Looks like it might be even better than the US version! Im going to have to figure out a way to watch this show plus its a show filled with ridiculously cute accents!
