For the eighth year, the CMA Songwriters Series returned to New York and did just that.

The juggernaut film The Hunger Games opens today, to great anticipation and excitement. The film itself will only feature two pop songs, Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars’ “Safe & Sound” and the Arcade Fire’s “Abraham’s Daughter.” But the soundtrack, Songs From District 12 and Beyond, is loaded with songs inspired by the book from artists like Maroon 5, Kid Cudi, Glen Hansard (of Once), Miranda Lambert, and several less well-known acts.

So how did these bands earn a spot the soundtrack for one of the most anticipated films of 2012?

The Red Solo Cup, made famous by keg drinkers everywhere, was taken to a new level of popularity with Toby Keith‘s 2011 smash hit of the same name. Now the company is on the verge of being sold!

According to the Chicago Tribune, The Chicago-based Solo Cup Company is being acquired for $1 billion by Dart Container Corporation, (the not-as-famous) maker of the foam cup.

The massive country music party in Las Vegas April 1 just got even more massive. The Academy of Country Music announced today that Carrie Underwood, Sara Evans, and Keith Urban will now perform during the 47th annual ACM Awards. They are joining an already-stellar lineup of award-show performers that includes Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Chris Young, The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts. Phew!

The thaw is upon us — or at least, it’s supposed to be, because yesterday was the first day of spring.
